Starc continues. Ball refusing to make its journey to the ropes any easier. Well placed by Rahul between slips and gully but slows down. Three runs. Jaiswal moves back and pulls that above everyone to deep-backward square leg ropes. FOUR!

Starc bowling fuller, coming into the stump line. Forcing Jaiswal to adjust and push it right of the bowler. Bouncer to Jaiswal. Patience paid off as he perfected his footwork to drive it through covers for a four to end the over. 

Marsh keeping the line much tighter now. Coming to Jaiswal high on the pads but bats it away for a single. Rahul edges it but with soft hand. It falls short of slips. Rahul punishes the next one for a four! Shorter ball and slapped over backward point. 

Jaiswal drives it through covers for two. Follows it up with a four! Jaiswal ramps it over the keeper to the ropes. Three more added and that’s a 50-run stand between the openers. 

Rahul pulls it away to deep square leg fence for a four. Follows it up with a double. No ball, Marsh has to go again. Ball shaping up and just missing the outside edge. Matsh giving away eight runs in his first over.

Starc returns. Jaiswal pushes one to mid off for a single. One from the over. Cummins continues. Jaiswal gets a single to cover. Four!! Full on the stumps, driven down the ground for a boundary. 

Cummins manages to find Rahul’s edge but it goes on the bounce to Steve Smith at slips. Played with soft hands. Rahul pulls a short ball through square leg for a single. 

Hazlewood to Jaiswal, edged but well short of the slip fielder. Maiden over. Cummins continues from the other end. Another maiden over. 

Cummins into the attack. Four!! Short of a length outside off, Jaiswal guides it through backward point for a boundary. Five from the over. 

Starc goes full on the pads, Rahul flicks it through midwicket for a couple. A midfield at midwicket gives Jaiswal a couple. 

Hazlewood concedes three in his next over. 

Hazlewood to Rahul, strikes him on the pads but it was well outside off stump. Full outside off, punched through cover for a couple. Short on the body, pulled to deep fine for a single by Rahul. 

Starc to Jaiswal, short of a length on off, guided to gully again. Four!! Full down leg, clipped fine and runs away for a boundary. 

Hazlewood to Jaiswal, beats the bat with one angling away. Outside off again, played with soft hands towards gully. Full down leg, brushes Rahul’s pads and runs away fine for four. 

Full and straight from Starc to Jaiswal, punched back to the bowler. Short of a length on the body, turned fine for a single. Leg byes given. One from the over. 

Time for India to press home the slight advantage at the end of the first innings. Jaiswal and Rahul walk to the middle. There weren’t a lot of demons on the pitch during the first innings. Will be interesting to see how it plays out in the second. 

India may feel like Starc and Hazlewood stayed on for a bit too long but it has managed to grab a 46-secure lead. Now, it will be upto the batters to have a better second session and add more than a mere 150. Harshit Rana with a three-for in his debut game and Bumrah with five. That’s Lunch and there will be certainly plenty to discuss in both dressing rooms. 

Starc connecting with Bumrah’s delivery. But unable to get it past covers. Trying something different here and bowls it well short. No ball. Yorker but no nothing on it. 

Rana replaces Sundar. And that is it! OUT! Starc ran out of patience and tried to go big but Starc could only get an edge. Went high but lands safe in Pant’s gloves.

Siraj. Starc lets the ball go. Looks like we may see Washington Sundar bowl next. IND will need to break this partnership as soon as possible. Starc is still managing to find singles here. Angling back but Hazlewood defends it away. 

Jurel at short leg as Sundar bowls his first. Some good defensive shots from Starc. As expected, pushed it to the leg side for a single to keep strike. 

Starc not taking any single, hoping he’ll connect with something to score more than just one or two. Doesn’t middle the pull but a single taken nevertheless. Score reads 99-9.

Nitish back. Starc clearly farming the strike. Line much more straight and just away from the outside edge. Hazlewood stands strong. AUS trails by 50 runs. 

Siraj begins with a bouncer. Starc looking to attack but swings and misses completely. Ducks to get out of the way but hits Starc on his shoulder. Maiden. 

Nitish bowling full at the stumps. Hazlewood drives it straight down but Bumrah chases it down. Just a run. Starc still missing the big shots. Finds a single from somewhere to keep strike. 

Siraj replaces Bumrah. Just a single from the over. Nitish Reddy from the other end. Forcing Starc to go defensive. firm hands and driving it straight to the bowler. Pulls it high towards deep mid wicket but lands safe. 

Bumrah to Starc. The Aussie still looking to go big. Gets a bit of glove but falls short of slips. A quick single to end the over. 

Rana continues. Fuller at the stumps but Starc puts it away. Bouncer on the next. Flush on the helmet. Starc lowered himself a tad too much, forcing a mandatory concussion check. Just one run off the over.

Rana continues. Stars with a zipper down leg. Much fuller on the length, drives it to covers but no run taken. One bounce over deep mid wicket fence for a four. Down to long leg for a single. 

Bumrah against Starc. Leaves the ball alone. A bit of swing there, moving away from the batter. Nitish with a throw that could have removed Starc, who was cruising to complete the single. Hazlewood on strike, beats his outside edge. Four. Finds the edge and flies past a diving Pant to the ropes. 

Bumrah back, in search for a possible sixth wicket. Starc not taking the single. Swing and a miss. Only looking for the bigger shots. No run. 

Rana to Hazlewood. Adjusting and exposing his stumps but ball misses the bat and wicket. Tapped to mid-wicket for a single. Going down leg for a leg bye. Starc just teasing the bowler but no run off the last two. 

WICKET!! Rana bangs one short, takes the glove and Rahul has a simple catch at third slip.

Starc drives Harshit down the ground, but mid-off cuts it off and prevents a boundary. Harshit finds Starc’s edge, falls just short of the slip fielder. 

Bumrah to Lyon, guides one to third man for three. Starc turns a ball on legstump to fine leg for a single. 

Rana continues. Starc leaves a short of a length ball outside off. Rana switches the angle, moves to round the wicket. Bangs one in short, Starc keeps his wrists down and lets it go. Finds the edge but goes on the bounce to the slip fielder.

AUS vs IND: Jasprit Bumrah picks second Test fifer in Australia during first BGT encounter

Jasprit Bumrah picked his second Test fifer in Australia during the second day of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia on Saturday.

Harshit to begin proceedings on Day 2. Forces Carey into an inside edge that trickles to fine leg for a single. A testing short ball at Starc, batter ducks out of the way. Three from the first over of the day. 

Under azure blue skies in a city at ease with both the slow life and fast lanes, Australia and India were locked in a taut battle of attrition. The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series commenced with hype and hope and as Friday ebbed, there were enough twists and turns to keep the fans engaged.

And at the first day’s close, the host struggled at 67 for seven after restricting India to 150 in its first innings. Australia’s reply became a hoarse whisper as Jasprit Bumrah (four for 17) bowled like a man possessed, a trait he replicates in most contests. The Indian captain accounted for opener Nathan McSweeney and then drew an edge off Marnus Labuschagne which Virat Kohli dropped. 

The spearhead was not finished yet as he dismissed Usman Khawaja with Kohli making amends at second slip. The next ball cannoned into Steve Smith’s pads and it was left to Travis Head to prevent the hat-trick. Bumrah’s first spell was an incredible 6-2-9-3.
