Chandigarh: A special campaign by Haryana Police to promote lane discipline and road safety seems to have paid off.
There has been a decrease in road accidents (662) and deaths (278) from Jan to Oct 2024 compared to the previous year, said cops. Besides, 505 fewer people were reported injured in road accidents during the period. The campaign, which runs till Nov 24, aims to educate the public about proper lane driving while penalising violators to enhance compliance.
Director general of police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapoor on Friday said to reduce road accidents, it is necessary that people follow traffic rules seriously. He said one of the main reasons for road accidents in the state is lane driving violation.
Sharing the road safety data, the DGP said that from Jan-Oct, challans were issued to 18,21,318 drivers, while 1,883 awareness campaigns were conducted.
