The 2024 Maharashtra Assembly election for Kandivali East saw a keenly contested battle between Bhatkhalkar and Budheliya. Bhatkhalkar, who first claimed the seat in 2014 by defeating Congress MLA Thakur Ramesh Singh, successfully retained it in 2019. Now, he is aiming for a hat-trick victory on the BJP ticket.

Created during the 2008 delimitation, the Kandivali East Assembly constituency includes areas such as Ashok Nagar, Poisar, parts of Malad East, Hanuman Nagar, and Lokhandwala Township. The constituency is a socio-economic mix of affluent residhents, middle-class households, and economically weaker sections. Key campaign issues have revolved around slum rehabilitation, traffic management, and infrastructure improvement.

The Kandivali East constituency is part of the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat, a BJP stronghold represented by Union Minister Piyush Goyal in Parliament.

In the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly election, the BJP emerged as the single largest party, winning 105 of the 288 seats, while its then-ally Shiv Sena secured 56. The Congress and NCP won 44 and 54 seats, respectively. However, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance dissolved over disagreements on the chief ministership, leading to the formation of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

The political landscape in Maharashtra has since been marked by significant shifts. The Eknath Shinde-led rebellion in June 2022 caused a split in the Shiv Sena, and in July 2023, the NCP faced a similar division when Ajit Pawar broke away from Sharad Pawar to join the ruling Mahayuti alliance. These developments have added a layer of complexity to the 2024 elections, making constituencies like Kandivali East crucial battlegrounds.

Voting for the 2024 Assembly election in Maharashtra took place on November 20. All the 288 seats in the state, including Kandivali East, voted in a single phase.

This time, Kandivali East has approximately 2.85 lakh voters.
