Sreejaya Chavan, daughter of former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan, won her debut assembly poll contest from Bhokar seat in Nanded district by trouncing Congress rival Tirupati Kadam Kondhekar by 50,551 votes, as per PTI.
Sreejaya’s victory cemented the Chavan family’s hold over the Bhokar constituency, represented by her grandfather Shankarrao Chavan and parents Ashok Chavan and Ameeta Chavan earlier.
Notably, Ashok Chavan had switched to BJP from Congress earlier this year, following which he was appointed as a member of Rajya Sabha.
BJP candidates achieved significant victories across several Mumbai constituencies in the 2024 elections, with Narendra Mehta winning Mira Bhayandar by a margin of 60,433 votes, Ameet Bhaskar Satam leading Andheri West by 19,599 votes, and Sanjay Mukund Kelkar securing Thane with a 58,253 vote margin. Other notable wins include Sanjay Upadhyay in Borivali, Chaudhary Manisha Ashok in Dahisar, and Atul Bhatkalkar in Kandivali East.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress and INDI Alliance, stating that their divisive agenda based on caste, religion, language, and region was rejected by the people. Congress leader Bhai Jagtap voiced concerns over the credibility of EVMs following the Maharashtra election results. Claiming to have raised similar issues since 2000, Jagtap alleged that EVMs could be manipulated and accused the Mahayuti of misusing administrative powers to influence outcomes.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) claimed multiple victories in Mumbai, including Aditya Uddhav Thackeray from Worli (margin: 8,801 votes) and Manoj Pandurang Jamsutkar from Byculla (margin: 31,361 votes). Other winners include Sunil Rajaram Raut (Vikhroli), Anant (Bala) B. Nar (Jogeshwari East), and Sanjay Govind Potnis (Kalina), according to the Election Commission of India.

As the counting for the 2024 Maharashtra election continues, Congress’ Amit Deshmukh is currently ahead of BJP’s Archana Patil Chakurkar by 3,284 votes in the Latur City Assembly constituency, according to the latest trends from the Election Commission. Deshmukh, the son of late former CM Vilasrao Deshmukh, is outpacing his rival, the daughter-in-law of Shivraj Patil Chakurkar.
As the BJP-led Mahayuti sweeps the Maharashtra polls, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis credited the people for accepting Eknath Shinde as the true leader of Shiv Sena, reflecting strong support for the alliance.

NCP leader Praful Patel stated that the people have given a clear mandate to the Mahayuti. He confirmed that Ajit Pawar will be elected leader of the NCP Legislative Party tomorrow, and a meeting between BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP will soon clarify who will lead the Mahayuti alliance.

In the Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections, the NOTA (None of the Above) option saw minimal use, with just 0.75% of voters selecting it in Maharashtra and 1.32% in Jharkhand, according to Election Commission data.
Business Standard’s AK Bhattacharya emphasized the rising influence of regional leaders and welfare, particularly women’s welfare, in shaping electoral outcomes in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule marked the BJP-led Mahayuti’s victory by preparing jalebi, symbolising their celebration as the alliance is set to form the government in the state.

Mangal Prabhat Lodha, the founder of the Lodha Group (now Macrotech Developers) in Mumbai, won the Malabar Hill (185) constituency with 101,197 votes, beating his opponent by a large margin of 68,019 votes.
Political analyst Sajjan Kumar highlighted the significant role of women’s support, particularly due to schemes like the Ladki Bahin Yojana, in the BJP’s success. He noted how financial assistance during festivals resonated at the household level.
Kumar also pointed out the emergence of a new generation of voters, with leaders like Eknath Shinde appealing more to younger electorates, signalling a shift away from traditional sympathy politics. Popular schemes and leadership appeal have been crucial factors in shaping voter decisions.
BJP’s Sneha Dube Pandit secured 93,745 votes in the Vasai-Virar constituency, defeating her closest opponent, Bahujan Vikas Aaghadi’s (BVA) Hitendra Vishnu Thakur, by a margin of 3,153 votes, according to the Election Commission of India.
Congress spokesperson Saral Patel congratulated the BJP for exceeding expectations but pointed out the increasing reliance on RSS, suggesting PM Modi’s popularity may be waning. He acknowledged Congress’s underperformance and promised introspection while criticizing the misuse of government agencies like the Income Tax and ED in Maharashtra.
BJP Spokesperson Gopal Krishna Agarwal highlighted the importance of teamwork, effective counter-narratives, and the role of RSS in securing the party’s victory. He emphasized how false narratives by the opposition in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh were successfully challenged. Agarwal also credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and welfare policies for driving the election win.
