Varanasi: Alumni from the 1997 to 2001 MCA batch at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) donated Rs five lakh to initiate a new scholarship at the university.
A group of 14 alumni met with vice chancellor (VC) professor Sudhir Kumar Jain on Thursday and presented him with the donation cheque.
This fund will be used to establish a new scholarship for computer science students. During their meeting with the VC, the alumni shared memories of their student life at the university and provided suggestions for the advancement of the university and its students.
They mentioned that there are several areas where alumni can actively contribute to solving challenges related to the university and its students.
They praised the donation initiative started by the university under the leadership of professor Jain and expressed that it plays a crucial role in strengthening the relationship between BHU and its alumni. They expressed their desire to remain in contact with the university and continue contributing to its progress.
While interacting with the alumni, the VC informed them about the initiatives taken for student development. He mentioned that thousands of students received training under leadership and life skills programs aimed at developing leadership qualities and preparing them for future and career challenges. The results are evident in the changes in students' personalities and confidence.
Professor Jain also shared the progress of plans for faculty development, capacity building, and the increase of new opportunities at the university.
He urged the alumni to maintain their connection with the university so that their experience and skills can benefit the welfare and development of the institution and its members.
He suggested that alumni visit BHU whenever possible and spend time on campus, which will not only deepen their relationship with the institution but also allow them to contribute meaningfully. Finance officer Manoj Pandey and alumni relations advisor professor Ramesh Chand were also present during the meeting.
