Aizawl: For the second time since the fresh outbreak of ASF this year, Mizoram recorded no pig deaths on Saturday and only one culling in Serchhip district, reports HC Vanlalruata.
Animal husbandry and veterinary officials expressed the hope that ASF may be contained soon with the advent of winter.
As of Saturday, 14,741 pigs have already died due to ASF this year with 256 villages being declared as infected. The number of infected pigs killed also rose to 24,028 during the same period.
The officials said the first ASF case was detected at Lungsen village bordering Bangladesh in Lunglei district on March 21, 2021. At least 33,417 pigs died of ASF and 12,568 were culled that year.
