New Delhi: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly fatally stabbed by her husband in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri. The couple's young son was also critically injured during the attack.
The accused, a butcher, allegedly used his butcher's knife to commit the crime last Saturday before fleeing to his village in Aligarh, where he attempted to kill himself but survived, said police.
The accused, identified as Sanju, allegedly attacked his wife after a dispute over money for alcohol. According to a senior police officer, "Sanju was reportedly intoxicated and demanded money from his wife Geeta to buy liquor. When she refused, he flew into a rage and launched a savage attack."
Preliminary investigations reveal that Sanju first stabbed his wife multiple times in the abdomen, causing severe injuries. When their son, Raj, attempted to intervene and protect his mother, he, too, was stabbed, suffering wounds on his chest and abdomen. Police, alerted by Raj, immediately took Geeta to a hospital and quickly launched a manhunt for Sanju. Geeta later succumbed to her injuries.
After the brutal assault, Sanju fled to his village in Aligarh and tried to kill himself, police said. He was subsequently arrested and is in police custody. Police have registered a murder case under Section 103 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
