Patna: Professor of Jawaharlal Nehru University, Andrew Lynn, said on Friday that artificial intelligence and data analysis were finding increasing applications in bioinformatics for solution of problems related to human welfare.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of a three-day national conference on "Bioinformatics and biological research", organised by the bioinformatics department of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) at Gaya, Lynn explained in details how generative AI tools can make the tasks of research scientists easier and more purposeful. He said the findings of researches in biological sciences should be used wisely and cautiously in ameliorating the sufferings of human beings.
CUSB vice-chancellor Kameshwar Nath Singh, in his presidential remarks, observed that the ancient science of Ayurveda should be explored by the modern scientists for the benefit of mankind. He emphasised the need to carry out more intensive research in the field of bioinformatics to find out new drugs and vaccines for the treatment of different diseases. "India can become a superpower only when our scientists and academics carry out more innovative and socially useful research," he said.
In his welcome address, conference chairperson R S Rathore highlighted the need to preserve data for quality research. Wherever possible, proper software should be used for getting accurate results in analysis, he said.
Bioinformatics department head Asheesh Shankar highlighted the academic developments of the department ever since it was established in 2011. Biological sciences dean Rizwanul Haque discussed the role of computational biology in curing cancer and infectious diseases. Vijay Kumar Singh proposed a vote of thanks.
