Mohali: In an attempt to enhance coordination between police and public for safer neighbourhoods, Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Deepak Pareek has reinvigorated community policing with beat system.
He said Mohali police have taken significant steps to enhance community safety and police-public coordination. The SSP said the beat system has been meticulously organised with six distinct beats under the Phase 11 police station. Each beat has been assigned an NGO representative and an official representative (OR) who are responsible for thorough surveillance of their designated areas.
Pareek said, “The initiative focuses on establishing strong communication channels between law enforcement and local residents. The resident welfare associations have been advised to create a dedicated WhatsApp groups that include contact details of circle officers, SHOs, chowkidars, and security guards. This enables quick response and coordination during emergencies.”
The SSP said the neighbourhood watch scheme has proven effective in building community bonds.
Regular meetings are conducted to familiarise residents with each other, creating a support network within the community. The police have addressed previous concerns about SHO accessibility through three dedicated meetings with RWAs.
Security measures have been strengthened with daily nakabandi operations. The DSP and SHO contact numbers are readily made available to all residents, ensuring round-the-clock accessibility.
The beat officers maintain regular communication with chowkidars and security guards in their respective areas.
The SSP said the new system has improved surveillance and response mechanisms.
“Beat officers have been directed to conduct regular patrols and maintain detailed records of their areas. They coordinate with local security personnel and respond promptly to residents' concerns. The WhatsApp groups serve as an effective platform for sharing security updates and addressing immediate concerns,” said the SSP.
