Patna: Unidentified criminals shot dead former deputy mukhiya, Uday Rai (45), in the diara area of Saran district late on Friday evening. Police said old enmity is the reason behind the killing.
The incident occurred in the Akilpur diara locality while Uday was returning to his residence in Danapur locality along with his wife and sister on a bike.
Uday lived with his family at Shahtoli, Danapur. The police took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem. An FSL team was also called for investigation.
Police said while Uday was returning to Danapur via the diara area on a bike along with his sister and wife, armed criminals waylaid them in Harshamchak locality and started firing indiscriminately. Five bullets hit Uday's head, back and leg, and he died on the spot.
Uday had also contested the mukhiya's election from Patlapur panchayat in Khagaul.
Akilpur SHO Vinod Ram said: "Prima facie old enmity appears to be the reason behind the killing. Three bullets hit his head and he died on the spot. A case will be registered when his family members record their statement."
