Noida: A group of residents from the residential sectors in the periphery of the city — among them Xu, Mu, Sigma, P1 and Omicron — met Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) officials and demanded a robust bus network.
In the absence of a public transport system, residents in these areas have to depend largely on their own vehicles for commuting. Many residents told TOI that they have to travel to Pari Chowk to catch a bus or auto for commuting to other parts of Delhi-NCR.
"In order to provide better transport facilities to the residents of the outer sectors of Greater Noida, we have urged UPSRTC officials that if the buses going directly from Kasna to Pari Chowk are diverted via outer sectors Sigma 4, Omicron 3, (130m road), Authority roundabout and then from City Park to Pari Chowk, it will be beneficial. Also, we have demanded a brief halt at the City Park, which will be an added advantage for the residents of nearby sectors like Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, and Eta. They can benefit from the halt at City Park along with the outer sectors like Omicron, Xu, Mu, Sigma, and P1," said Alok Singh, founder of Active Citizens Group.
Singh led the delegation and submitted a memorandum on the requirements to UPSRTC ARM Anil Sharma.
According to Singh, around 60,000 residents of about 11-12 sectors will benefit from this change. "The route diversion will also bring revenue benefits for UPSRTC. So, it can be a win-win situation for both residents as well as the transport department," Singh added.
ARM Sharma said the diversion to touch outer sectors would be beneficial and added that, for this, a survey will be required for the new route as it involves extra distance. Also, ticket pricing will have to be decided accordingly. "I will discuss this with senior officials and will take appropriate measures as advised," said Sharma.
