Bhilwara: A 35-year-old man was arrested in Asind police station area of Bhilwara district late on Thursday evening on charge of raping a married woman on the pretext of helping her secure bail for her jailed husband in Aug.
Bhilwara SP Dharmendra Singh said on Friday the accused, Prabhulal Lohar, already has 12 criminal cases, including two of rape, registered against him. He was evading arrest ever since the present case of rape was lodged by the 35-year-old woman on Sept 23, the SP said. As per the FIR, Lohar promised to help the woman secure bail for her husband, who arrested for allegedly transporting illegal liquor and lodged in a jail in Gujarat. Lohar took her to meet her husband, and on Aug 6 demanded Rs 60,000 for the bail process. The victim arranged the money from her relatives and gave it to Lohar along with her identification documents. Lohar allegedly intimidated and sexually assaulted her and then, on Aug 15, stole her motorcycle and fled. Her husband was released on bail some days later.
Lohar also repeatedly called the victim, making demands for an illicit relationship, and threatened to send her husband back to jail if she did not pay him. Based on her complaint, police registered a case and began an investigation. Lohar was tracked down and arrested on Thursday evening.
