Berhampur: Police on Friday claimed to have solved the murder of a history-sheeter near Bandhaguda under Ganjam district's Sheragada police limits with the arrest of all four accused persons allegedly involved in the murder on Wednesday night.
The accused, Jitendra Swain, Rinku Swain, Rudra Gouda of Patharapunji, and Chandan Dalei of Sikiri, were arrested for beating Ananta Patnaik (38) of Aska College Square to death after abducting him from Khirida-Bandaguda road. "A country-made pistol and a car used by the accused were seized," said Girija Patnaik, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Aska.
He said previous enmity is stated to be the cause of the incident and investigation is underway. The deceased was allegedly involved in around 20 cases under different police stations in the district, including murder, attempt to murder, preparation for dacoity, and extortion at gunpoint.
On Wednesday evening, the accused persons found the deceased along with his two associates on Khirida-Bandaguda road on a bike, while they were travelling in a car.
They obstructed the bike of the deceased and allegedly assaulted him. They also exploded a bomb, which was found with the deceased, and abducted him in their car to Bandhaguda, about 5 km away. His two other associates fled from the spot on the motorcycle while they assaulted him, police said.
Police said they assaulted and left him there with his country-made pistol. Police recovered the body the day after and sent it for autopsy. The accused were arrested during search in the nearby areas, he said.
