Udupi: Five people sustained serious injuries after the SUV they were travelling was hit by an insulator vehicle on Wednesday. The injured are Narayana, Valsal, Anita, Chitralekha, and the driver of the insulator vehicle.
In a complaint, Madhusudanan from Kerala stated that he, along with his wife Anita, 57, his elder brother Bhargavan, 65, Bhargavan's wife Chitralekha, 57, and neighbours Narayana, 68, and his wife Valsal, 60, embarked on a trip to Karnataka from Kerala on Nov 19 in a rented SUV. The vehicle was driven by Falalu Rehman.
After visiting a few places, they travelled to Gokarna in Uttara Kannada district, completed their visit there, and started their journey to Udupi's Krishna Mutt on Wednesday. At around 3pm, near Kumbashi village, slightly ahead of the Sri Chandika Durgaparameshwari Temple, the group stopped to take a look at the temple from the road. As the car was being reversed, an insulator vehicle, travelling from Kundapur towards Udupi, collided with their car from the rear. The vehicle, allegedly driven at high speed by Mahesh, pushed the car off the road, and overturned.
The car was completely mangled, with the roof torn off, and all the passengers suffered head and limb injuries. The insulator vehicle driver was also injured. Residents rushed the injured to a hospital in Koteshwara for initial treatment. Following the advice of doctors, the seriously injured Narayana, Valsal, Anita, and Chitralekha were shifted to a private hospital in Manipal for advanced treatment. A case was registered at Kundapur Traffic police station.
