Jaisalmer: A three-year-old boy died after falling into a 160-feet-deep borewell at Arjun ki Dhani in Dhorimanna area under Gudamalani sub-division of Barmer on Wednesday. The body was recovered after six-hour operation.
The village plunged into grief after the death of the child. The district administration tried its best to rescue the child, but all efforts went in vain. Earlier, civil defence personnel and a specialist team conducted rescue operation.
Administrative and police officers had also arrived at the scene. They monitored the child's movements inside the borewell by using surveillance equipment.
District collector Tina Dabi told media that the incident occurred during maintenance work at Pappu Ram Jat's private borewell in his field. His three-year-old son, Naresh, playing nearby, accidentally fell into the structure. The borewell is situated in sandy terrain with sand dunes and the rescue operation was a big challenge, Dabi said.
The narrow diameter of the borewell prevented adult entry, while the presence of water inside the borewell complicated rescue efforts.
Rescue teams had positioned ropes and necessary equipment for the extraction attempt. Various units implemented their planned rescue strategies with support from administrative officers and police personnel. Local villagers had also gathered in large numbers at the scene.
