Mumbai witnessed a slight improvement in voter turnout compared to the 2019 assembly elections, with Mumbai city and its suburbs recording 49.07% and 51.92% polling, respectively, by 5 pm on Wednesday (November 20).
Borivali recorded the highest turnout in the city at 60.50%, followed by Bhandup West at 60.18%. In contrast, Colaba reported the lowest turnout at 41.64%.
Although Mumbai’s turnout remained below the state average, it marked an increase from the 2019 assembly polls, which saw a final turnout of 48.22% in Mumbai city and 51.28% in the suburbs. For context, the city’s six Lok Sabha constituencies had registered a turnout of 52.38% during the recent parliamentary elections.
Congress candidate from Nagpur North, Dr Nitin Raut, cast doubt on the accuracy of exit polls, claiming voters may not openly admit supporting Congress. He expressed confidence in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) taking the lead but accused the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance of widespread electoral malpractice, including bogus voting, misuse of government resources, and turning off lights at polling booths to manipulate outcomes. Raut criticized the Mahayuti government as unoriginal, formed by breaking other parties, and asserted that the public’s true preference is the MVA.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur on Wednesday evening (November 20), shortly after polling concluded for the 288 assembly constituencies in the state.
According to sources, the meeting took place at the RSS office in the Mahal area of Nagpur. Sources speculate that the visit may have been an expression of gratitude for the organization’s support during BJP’s door-to-door campaign efforts.
