Jaipur: A gang of unidentified thieves broke into the house of a retired RAS official in Malviya Nagar and made off with Rs 10 lakh along with precious silver and gold jewellery.
The victim, a former RAS officer, reported the crime after returning home from a wedding on Tuesday at the Malviya Nagar police station.
According to SHO (Malviya Nagar) Sangram Singh, the retired official was away for a wedding celebration on Sunday and Monday. Upon his return to his residence in Jhalana on Tuesday, he was shocked to find his home ransacked and valuable items missing.
In his FIR, the official detailed that the thieves stole Rs 10 lakh, 12 silver cups, 80 silver coins, two expensive watches, a gold chain, and various pieces of jewellery. Authorities have launched an investigation, and police teams have been deployed to gather evidence and identify the culprits.
"We have launched a manhunt and also reviewed CCTV footage in the area," Singh said, adding that despite scanning various CCTVs from the locality, no substantial evidence has been found that could help identify the criminals.
The police believe that the heist may have been carried out by drug addicts, who often target empty houses during the wedding season.
These criminals are said to sell the stolen items in the grey market to fund their drug habits. tnn
