India reports 1.1 billion telephone subscribers, September 2024

TRAI subscriber data reveals:

In September 2024, total telephone subscribers stood at 1190.66 million, with wireless at 1153.72 million and wireline at 36.93 million. This brings the overall tele density to 84.69 percent, with urban at 131.86 percent and rural at 58.48 percent.

The total broadband subscribers decreased from 949.21 million at the end of August 2024 to 944.40 million at the end of September 2024 with a monthly decline rate of 0.51 percent. RJio had a 50.61 percent market share, Bharti Airtel 30.20 percent, and Vi 13.38 percent.

Wireline subscribers increased from 36.23 million at the end of August 2024 to 36.93 million at the end of September 2024. Net increase in the wireline subscriber base was 0.70 million with a monthly rate of growth 1.93 percent . Reliance Jio held 40.61 percent, Bharti Airtel 25.24 percent, and Vodafone Idea 2.34 percent of the wireline market in September 2024. BSNL, MTNL and APSFL, the three PSUs access service providers, held 23.95 percent of the wireline market.

Total wireless subscribers decreased from 1,163.83 million at the end of August 2024, to 1,153.72 million at the end of September2024, registering a monthly decline rate of 0.87 percent . Reliance Jio held 40.20 percent, Bharti Airtel 33.24 percent, and Vodafone Idea 18.41 percent of the wireline market in September 2024. The two PSUs, BSNL and MTNL held 8.15 percent of the wireless market.
