Varanasi: A day after the arrest of Shoeb Khan by Mau police on charges of stabbing Sukkhu Rajbhar, an incident that led to violent protests in Ghosi area of Mau district on Nov 15, the DM ordered him to be booked under sections of the National Security Act on Wednesday.
Police had worked hard to maintain peace and communal harmony for two days in Ghosi.
Mau SP Elamaran G said Shoeb Khan was arrested by police on Tuesday. Apart from disrupting law and order in the entire Ghosi area, Khan's criminal act of stabbing Rajbhar increased possibility of further law and order problem. A report was forwarded to district magistrate Pravin Mishra by police with a recommendation to book him under sections of the NSA. After reviewing the report, the DM ordered police to invoke NSA against Shoeb Khan.
Ghosi township of Mau district witnessed a violent protest on Nov 15 after Sukhu Rajbhar of Bharoti area was stabbed by Shoeb and his accomplices following a collision of their motorcycles in the Madhuban area. Locals rushed Rajbhar to the Community Health Center, from where he was referred to the trauma centre of BHU in Varanasi for proper treatment. Hundreds of people gathered at the Ghosi CHC and staged a violent protest, blocking the Ghosi-Doharighat road. Despite police efforts to calm the situation, the crowd chanted slogans and engaged in brick-batting, in which many policemen, including CO Ghosi and SHO of Ghosi police station, suffered injuries, and many vehicles were also damaged.
Initially, on complaint of Rajbhar's mother, Sharda Devi, Ghosi police lodged a case against Shoeb and his unidentified accomplices. Later, two FIRs were lodged against protesters on the complaint of Ghosi CHC in charge and inspector Ghosi against 38 named individuals and approximately 250 to 300 unidentified persons.
