Ahmedabad: Gujarat high court on Wednesday began hearing applications filed by some of the convicts in the 2008 serial blasts case, seeking suspension of their sentence and release on bail. Their counsel submitted that the charges framed by the trial court and the chargesheets did not reveal any overt act or role by the convicts except their alleged participation in a criminal conspiracy. The division bench is likely to hear the state govt's argument on the application on Thursday. In Feb 2022, a special court awarded the death sentence to 38 persons and sentenced 11 others to life imprisonment for the terror strikes that killed 56 persons and injured 200 others.
