Entrepreneur Ashneer Grover recently appeared as a special guest on the 'Weekend Ka Vaar' episode of the reality TV show 'Bigg Boss 18', where he was criticised by Bollywood superstar and host Salman Khan for allegedly spreading fake narratives about him.
A promo of the episode had gone viral on social media, drawing widespread reaction from many.
'Doglapan'
During the episode, Salman called out the "doglapan" (double standards) of Grover over his previous statements about the 'Dabangg' star.
“I have heard you speaking about me. You said, 'We signed him for this much amount, signed him for that much,' while the figures were wrong. What is with this double standard?” Salman said.
The term, 'doglapan', had gone viral after Grover used it during an episode on Shark Tank India in 2021. It is also the name of a book by him.
Grover's reply
After the promo went viral, Grover shared a clarification about his comments on X and LinkedIn.
"I hope you enjoyed the Bigg Boss weekend ka vaar ! I had good fun. And I am sure the particular episode got great TRP/viewership," Grover wrote.
The BharatPe co-founder added that Salman Khan was a “great host and actor” and knew what worked on 'Bigg Boss'.
“I’ve always praised Salman for his sense of self and business - not a single thing demeaning said for him ever,” he said, adding his "deal numbers are always correct (bank/auditor verified)."
He recalled he met the actor in an exclusive meeting in May 2019. “Met Salman in an exclusive meeting on the brand collab for 3 hours in May 2019 in JW Marriott Juhu - along with the director of ad (it’s ok if he doesn’t remember me - I was not a public figure then - he meets tonnes of people".
He noted the invite to appear as a guest on the show was not ‘‘unnamed’ - just like the cheque for the same".
Sharing a photograph with Salman, he concluded, "Thanks @BeingSalmanKhan. Keep rocking!"
The controversy
In April 2022, during a conversation with students at the Lovely Professional University (LPU), Grover discussed how he went on to sign Salman Khan for his brand, NDTV reported.
He said the actor demanded ₹7.5 crore, while he asked them to reduce the fee. To this, Grover said that Salman's manager replied, “Sir aap bhindi khareedne aaye ho kya? Kitni maandvali karoge?” (Sir, have you come here to buy vegetables? How much will you bargain?)
However, Salman said on the 'Bigg Boss' episode that the figures quoted by Grover were "wrong". To this, Grover said, "Maybe in the podcast, it did not come across correct”.
Later, Salman hit back and said the way Grover was speaking now wasn't his attitude back then. Salman even revealed that he was unaware of Grover's name until he was announced.
