Bhubaneswar: Adani Group subsidiary Mahanadi Mines and Minerals Pvt Ltd (MMMPL) on Thursday reaffirmed that its recent land acquisitions in Bargarh and Balangir districts are solely for the purpose of compensatory afforestation, dismissing speculation about mining interests near the bauxite-rich Gandhamradhan hills.
The company also said that the land was acquired from willing sellers, with the purpose clearly documented in the sale deeds.
"This land acquisition is not intended for any commercial purposes," the company stated in an official release, emphasising that the purchased land will be transferred to the Odisha forest department for afforestation activities.
The acquisition follows the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change guidelines, which permit project proponents to procure land in approved locations within or outside the state.
Forest authorities issued a suitability certificate in Oct following due diligence, legitimising the purchase.
MMMPL, which won the rights to operate the Bijahan coal mine in Sundargarh district through competitive bidding in 2022, said the mining project would generate substantial employment opportunities and boost local tax revenue.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to regional development, promising to create positive change for local communities and stakeholders.
