Hyderabad: A worker was killed and three more severely injured in a reactor explosion at Aurore Pharma Company in Suraram, Cyberabad, on Wednesday.
The accident occurred when the workers were cleaning the reactor, police said. There were 15 other workers in the plant at the time accident.
The deceased was identified as Anil Kumar (42) and the injured were Bala Ram (51), Gopi Chand (30) and Srinivas Reddy (46). Of these, Gopi is a permanent employee while the other three are on contract, police said.
According to police, the four workers were cleaning the reactor with methanol water in the morning. At around 10.15 am, due to a flash fire, an explosion was triggered in the reactor.
As all of them were very close to the reactor, they were trapped in the explosion and suffered severe burns. Though the fire was put out by the workers even before a fire tender could arrive, the four at the spot were badly burnt.
They were rushed to a nearby private hospital, where Anil was declared dead, police said. The condition of the other three workers is critical and they are under observation, Suraram SHO Bharath Kumar said.
A case has been registered and investigation is underway.
