A Greater Noida resident, Harish Shankar Gupta, was booked for animal cruelty after a video showing him dragging and assaulting a dog surfaced online. Animal activist Kaveri Rana shared the video, prompting police to file an FIR. Gupta claims he was disciplining the dog for damaging mattresses, but the dog will undergo a medical examination.
NOIDA: A resident of Greater Noida condominium was booked for animal cruelty after a video, purportedly of him, dragging and assaulting a dog on the balcony of his house was shared on social media. A woman, also spotted in the video, is seen standing next to him but doing nothing to help the animal.
Animal activist Kaveri Rana, who shared the video on social media, said the video was recorded by a resident of Mahagun Mantra in Sector 10 on Tuesday night.
" I shall be personally pursuing this matter via status reports in courts and ensure that a precedent is set in the district against animal cruelty," Rana said.
Cops took suo motu cognisance of the video and registered an FIR against the pet owner, Harish Shankar Gupta, under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
"Though our team did not see any wounds on the dog's body, the animal will undergo medical examination soon," Ecotech-3 SHO said.
Gupta, meanwhile, claimed that he was disciplining the dog. "The dog tore three mattresses , so I was just disciplining him. He was not hurt in. I am a dog lover, and I picked up this dog from the street. He is a stray dog," he said.
