Rajkot: A patient admitted to the surgery ward of Rajkot Civil Hospital was found abandoned near the kitchen lobby on Wednesday, prompting the authorities to launch a detailed investigation.
The man, believed to be in his mid-thirties, was found lying and writhing in pain with fractures in his leg.
On Tuesday noon, the man was brought to the hospital in a 108 ambulance after the emergency service was alerted by a citizen. Hospital records show that he was admitted to the surgery ward, and a subsequent entry showed that he absconded during the night.
Additional medical superintendent Dr Hetal Kyada said: "I have ordered an inquiry and asked the resident medical officer (RMO) to submit a report after checking the CCTV and recording the statements of the concerned staff. We have also sought an explanation from the head of department."
In a recent similar incident, an elderly woman patient from the same surgery ward was deserted on a stretcher near the post-mortem room. The investigation found two junior doctors responsible, who were penalised with mandatory social service.
