The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a holiday on November 20 for all employees working in businesses and offices within its jurisdiction, allowing people the opportunity to vote in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024.
Banks across the state will remain closed today (November 20) in observance of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday schedule. While physical branches in designated states will be closed, customers can still access financial services through ATMs, digital banking, and UPI platforms. Online transactions will continue to be operational for urgent banking needs, ensuring services are available even on holidays.
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will be closed on November 20 in observance of the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024. Trading in equities, derivatives, SLBs, currency derivatives, and interest rate derivatives will be suspended for the day.

Mumbai has long struggled with low voter turnout in both Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections. In a blow to the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA), its Dahanu candidate, Suresh Padvi, defected to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) just before the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024. Padvi announced his support for BJP’s candidate Vinod Medha, stating that electing a capable candidate would accelerate development in the rural area, which has been stagnant for the past five years. Padvi explained that after discussing with BJP’s district office-bearers, he decided to join the party.
To improve voter turnout in Thane district for the November 20 Maharashtra Assembly elections, a new one-click facility has been introduced, allowing voters to easily find polling stations by scanning QR codes. Thane Collector and Election Officer Ashok Shingare stated that this initiative is designed to enhance voter convenience and increase participation, especially in response to concerns about low voter turnout in the Thane and Kalyan areas.
