Nagpur: It's a bumpy and turbulent road not only for political candidates but also for those voting at Nagpur North's polling station at Bhola High School. The single approach road, Kadbi Chowk-Motibagh-Mominpura, is filled with potholes, has an uneven surface, and has even shifted to a single lane due to the snail-paced work of flyover construction.
This road is the solitary connection that takes traffic from Kadbi Chowk (on Kamptee Road) towards Mominpura or Central Avenue. Majority of the voters will be coming from Kadbi Chowk, as Mominpura is in the Nagpur Central constituency, and this road's condition will be a nightmare for voters, many of whom may not have even travelled to this place since Lok Sabha election.
TOI did a spot recce on Tuesday afternoon and found that while the vicinity around Bhola High School is good, the only approach road continues to be in bad condition. Another problem is that the road, as one approaches the school, is almost on a high mound and then slopes drastically.
Huge construction material kept on the side of the road has narrowed down the already shortened width. The dusty surface leads to rising patches of ‘dust bowls' every time vehicles pass.
When coming from Kadbi Chowk, voters will have to take a left turn from the Motibagh railway track towards the school, and there is now an added problem. As voters approach the left turn, the road gets narrower, and the left side view is blocked because of construction materials piled up between flyover pillars. At this particular point, even if four vehicles line up on each side and someone tries to overtake, it leads to a traffic jam that can take some time to unravel because of the lack of manoeuvring space.
Considering that Wednesday is voting day, over a thousand people will visit the polling station over the course of the day, and vehicles exiting from the school towards this road may cause a traffic jam.
