Bengaluru: Eyewitness statements, CCTV footage, a detailed police sketch of the spot, and FIR naming the accused have led to the conviction of a 37-year-old minibus driver in a fatal road accident case.
Sunil Kumar from Ramanagara has been sentenced to 15 months of simple imprisonment with a fine of Rs 9,000. In case of default of payment, he must undergo an additional two months and 10 days of simple imprisonment.
Around 1.10am on Sept 14, 2021, a minibus driven by Sunil Kumar collided with the motorbike of Kalyan Kumar, 25, a private firm employee and resident of Hoskote. A seriously injured Kalyan was shifted to a private hospital. On Oct 12, 2021, he succumbed to his injuries.
"Kalyan's friend Sunil, who filed the complaint, became the prime eyewitness. Besides, four more witnesses, including the investigating officer, stood by their statements during the trial. The photos of the accident matched those from CCTV footage showing the accident. The wound certificate and autopsy report also played a vital role in securing conviction," an investigating officer said.
