Keonjhar: The local BJP unit has filed a police complaint alleging that photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Mohan Majhi at the office of deputy director of horticulture have been defaced.
The incident came to light when BJP state executive member Radhakanta Mahanta and district office secretary Prakash Chandra Sutradhar visited the office on Tuesday night to inspect potato seeds. During their visit, they also discovered damaged potato seeds meant for distribution to farmers.
"This is a clear violation of govt guidelines and rules. We have submitted photographs and video evidence to the police, demanding strict action against the culprits," said Mahanta.
BJP functionaries also alleged there was an artificial shortage of potato seeds due to deliberate destruction of govt stock. However, deputy director of horticulture, Saimendra Narayan Panigrahi, denied these allegations.
Officer in-charge of Town police station, Shrikant Sahu, confirmed that a case has been registered and investigation is under way. "We visited the office today to investigate the matter," he said. Initial investigation revealed there were no CCTV cameras installed at the office.
Local BJP workers have demanded immediate action against those responsible for defacing the photographs and damaging govt property.
