Vadodara: Police seized several bladed weapons from a few houses in the old city and started inquiries into the whereabouts of history-sheeters. The murder of Tapan Parmar, son of a former BJP councillor, left the citizens shocked as the attack happened at SSG Hospital, allegedly in the presence of a few policemen.
The key accused, Babar Pathan, was arrested along with others within a few hours of the incident. City Congress leaders said the law-and-order situation in the city is deteriorating. Police began combing operations in certain parts of the old city on Monday night and began seizing bladed weapons.
A team is also tracking down history-sheeters, including bootleggers and gambling operators. Pathan is allegedly linked to the notorious Bichhu gang that is involved in several serious offences and is known for extortion too. Police were already facing criticism over burglaries and robberies, after which night patrols were stepped up in the city a few weeks ago.
Pathan allegedly stabbed Parmar to death in the early hours of Monday. Parmar had gone to the hospital to check on the treatment of Vikram Parmar, who had been stabbed earlier, allegedly by Pathan. Investigators said Pathan saw Parmar on the hospital premises and decided to kill him.
