Mohali: The police, under the leadership of Derabassi DSP, held a village defence committee meeting, addressing several crucial community concerns. The meeting was chaired by the DSP along with the SHO and other officials on Tuesday.
The meeting saw active participation from eight sarpanchs and their panches from the villages of Jeoli, Jaula, Sarangpur, Untala, Tarrak, Ranimajra, Jandli, and Bartana.

Derabassi DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar said the focus was on anti-drug awareness, where comprehensive information was shared about prevention strategies and the devastating effects of drug abuse on individuals and families. The officials provided practical guidance on identifying drug-related activities and encouraged villagers to report suspicious behaviour through proper channels.
DSP Brar said: “During the interactive session, villagers voiced their concerns about heavy vehicles speeding through narrow village roads, posing serious safety risks to residents, particularly children and the elderly. Directions have been given to the concerned officers to tackle the menace.”
The officials took note of this pressing issue and outlined specific measures to address it, including regular police patrolling in affected areas, installation of speed breakers at strategic locations, strict enforcement of speed limits, implementation of designated routes for heavy vehicles and regular monitoring of truck movement during peak hours.
The police assured the villagers of prompt action on their concerns and emphasised the importance of community participation in maintaining village safety. They also established a communication channel for villagers to report any violations or emergencies.
