Jaipur: Leading a delegation of villagers from Samraota, where violence erupted on the day of assembly bypolls on Nov 13, cabinet minister Kirori Lal Meena on Tuesday reached the residence of MoS Home Jawahar Singh Bedham, to demand immediate compensation for those affected by the violence, a divisional commissioner-led investigation into the violence, and action against officials whose negligence was responsible for the violence.
After discussions with Bedham and water resources minister Kanhaiya Lal Chaudhary, Meena addressed the media alongside them. He said, "I was told that the chief minister has approved steps to merge 28 villages from five panchayats, including Samraota, into the Uniara administrative division."
He further said, "No innocent person from Samraota or nearby villages will be falsely implicated (in police cases). Police have already released 19 individuals following preliminary investigations, and future action will be based on further findings."
Regarding compensation, he said, "The govt will conduct a survey to assess damages to homes, vehicles, and livestock, ensuring that affected individuals receive proper compensation."
Meena's move has reportedly caused unease among party leaders, who believe such actions may send a wrong message to the public and create internal discord. Despite this, the minister remains firm in his stance, vowing to stand by the villagers and ensure justice is served.
"Such moves only hamper the image of the party. If he has any concerns, he should pass them to the minister concerned without creating an issue. The party president's office must explain this to him, or it would give Congress a political advantage," said a senior party leader.
