Lucknow: A 16-year-old girl was allegedly strangled and her body was dumped in the thickets alongside the banks of Indira canal in Gosaiganj on Monday. Black marks, seemingly caused by strangling, were seen around the girl's neck. Bruises and injury marks were also found on the body.
The villagers saw the body on Monday noon and reported it to the village head and the police. The police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. At the same time, a crowd of people gathered at the house of the deceased.
People were seen busy discussing the incident, with the murder giving them enough fodder to churn stories.
The deceased was identified as a resident of Bhatwara village of Gosaiganj. She had four siblings, along with her mother and father. Her father runs a dairy business.
Her father said she left the house without telling anyone on Sunday night. "We were shocked when we were informed that her body was found on the banks of the Indira canal in the morning. Marks of strangulation were found on the girl's neck, which makes it clear that she was strangled to death," the parents said.
It seemed that before the murder, the girl struggled hard with her killers. "Bruises, which one suffers while struggling to defend oneself, were also found on the body, indicating that she tried her best to escape," police sources said.
DCP South Keshav Kumar said that four teams were formed to solve the case. "Nearby CCTV footage is being checked. The family has not levelled any allegations against anyone yet. The case is being thoroughly investigated," he said.
Police inspector Gosaiganj Brijesh Tripathi said, "The real reason behind the death will be clear after the post-mortem report comes".
