Varanasi: Police commissioner of Varanasi, Mohit Agarwal, directed the officials to form a Cyber Security Awareness Cell which will visit schools daily to educate students on how to avoid cyber fraud.
At a review meeting, Agarwal said that in response to the rise in cybercrime, police personnel, including 5 inspectors, 5 sub-inspectors, and 10 constables, will be appointed at the cyber police station. He directed the officials to open history sheets for continuous monitoring of criminals caught in cybercrimes. Phone numbers used in cybercrimes are to be blocked, with over 3,500 numbers already blocked by Varanasi Police.
He added that Varanasi Police registered 117 cases, arrested 63 accused, and recovered Rs 5.35 crores this year. He said that efforts should be made to recover money for victims of cyber fraud. Each cybercrime case should be thoroughly investigated to uncover the entire gang involved in the crime. Information about apprehended cybercriminals should be shared with the respective district's Superintendent of Police for monitoring.
Agarwal also reviewed cybercrime cases, evaluated the performance of the cyber cell and discussed training for officers and staff and talked about security awareness campaigns and resource enhancement.
