Chennai: A two-year-old boy and a man were injured by manja threads in two separate incidents in Vyasarpadi on Sunday.
The boy, B Pugazhvelan, was travelling with his parents on a bike when he was cut by a thread near Vyasarpadi bridge, said police. Pugazhvelan sustained injuries and his parents rushed him to a private hospital.
In the other incident, a man named Jilani Basha was riding his bike along Vyasarpadi when a thread cut his neck. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police registered two separate cases and begun an inquiry to get information about the manufacturers and sellers of the manja thread. They detained eight people and are yet to make a formal arrest. Police have also detained two other suspects following a series of such incidents.
