VARANASI: Varanasi Police Commissioner Mohit Agarwal instructed officials to establish a "Cyber Security Awareness Cell" to conduct daily school visits for educating pupils about cyber fraud prevention.
To combat increasing cybercrimes, Agarwal announced the deployment of additional personnel at the cyber police station, comprising 5 inspectors, 5 sub-inspectors, and 10 constables. He ordered the creation of history sheets to track cyber criminals and mentioned that Varanasi Police had already blocked over 3,500 phone numbers linked to cybercrimes. The force registered 117 cases, apprehended 63 suspects, and retrieved Rs 5.35 crores this year.
Agarwal emphasised the importance of securing compensation for cyber fraud victims and conducting thorough investigations to identify all members of criminal networks.
He instructed that information about arrested cybercriminals should be communicated to the respective district's Superintendent of Police for surveillance.
The review meeting, held on Monday at the camp office auditorium, covered various aspects including cybercrime cases, cyber cell performance evaluation, staff training programmes, awareness campaigns, and resource enhancement.
Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Shruti Srivastava attended the meeting alongside the cybercrime police station in-charge, cyber cell in-charge, and their team members.
