Jaipur: Following an inspection on Monday, the court of state commissioner for persons with disabilities directed Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) to comply with all disabled-friendly infrastructure as soon as possible. Failing this, the court may impose hefty fines against the authority. The court also forwarded a notice to Rajasthan State Road Development Corporation (RSRDC), the nodal agency that constructed the building in 2019.
"We conducted an inspection at the medical college, university, and hospital. None of the infrastructures at these three buildings are disabled-friendly. We were shocked to see how a building of the state govt can contempt mandatory building norms set by the state and the union govts," said Uma Shankar Sharma, state commissioner for persons with disabilities.
Officials said the matter came to light when a differently-abled woman employee of RUHS lodged a complaint against the authorities.
