Chandigarh: Reacting to Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria’s statement that no land had yet been allotted to Haryana in Chandigarh for building the legislative assembly, leader of opposition in Punjab assembly Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday urged the governor to reject Haryana’s proposal.
Interacting with the mediapersons, Kataria, on Sunday, said no land had been allocated yet and Haryana’s proposal was pending for a long time.
Bajwa emphasised that Haryana had no legitimate claim to establish an assembly in Chandigarh. He cited the Punjab Reorganisation Act of 1966, under which Chandigarh was designated as Punjab’s capital and temporarily made a UT to facilitate administrative arrangements. “Chandigarh belongs to Punjab. This historical and legal reality must be respected,” said Bajwa. tnn
