Gurgaon: Haryana is working towards realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Developed India by 2047", said industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh on Monday.
Speaking at the Haryana State Day celebration during the India International Trade Fair held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Singh said the state is working as an engine of economic growth for India and would continue to play a key role in the country's empowerment and prosperity.
Despite the state's small geographic area and population, it is leading the automobile and IT industries, Singh said, adding that robust infrastructure, including highways and metro rail, backs its industrial growth.
"Despite comprising just 1.34% of India's area and 2.09% of its population, Haryana is a major engine of India's economic development. The state leads in the automobile and IT industries, producing every second car and 52% of the country's tractors. Haryana's robust infrastructure, including highways, expressways, and metro rail, supports its industrial growth," said Singh.
Lauding the state's infrastructure the minister said Haryana has great connectivity and with the new national highways spanning 1350 km, people will have better accessibility of transportation acorss the state contributing largely to India's logistic sector. He said the state is home to the offices of global Fortune 400 companies and leads the country in foodgrain reserves and sports achievements.
The minister said Maruti is coming up with its new plant in Kharkhoda, the state is developing a 3300-acre industrial township near Kharkhoda and an IMT is being developed in Sohna, to transform the NCR region into a logistics hub.
