Chandigarh: A District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission-I, UT Chandigarh, has directed Gorofy Education Services to pay ₹30,000 to a complainant, along with ₹15,000 compensation for causing mental agony and harassment, after ruling that the company had failed to provide the promised job placement services and engaged in unfair trade practices.
The complainant, in August 2022, had met an agent of the firm, who explained the benefits of working abroad and living a high standard of life with good income. On the persuasion of the said agent, the complainant showed his interest in the said offer, and the firm informed him that they would charge an amount of ₹4.40 lakhs as a package, out of which he has to deposit ₹40,000 in advance, and the rest ₹4 lakhs will be deducted from his salary account. On this, the complainant had paid the advance.
“He was assured by the firm that he will fly abroad within 45 days. However, after expiry of 45 days, he did not get any response from the company, and on enquiry, he was directed to pay ₹2 lakhs extra on account of change in foreign policy. Later, the complainant asked the firm to return the money, but they refused to do so,” said a source.
