Margao: The issue of mega projects and illegal developments dominated the proceedings of the Curtorim gram sabha held on Sunday.
Villagers expressed their disapproval over the failure of the panchayat to present before the gram sabha the action taken report in matters pertaining to the issues raised during the previous gram sabha. They demanded that in the future, the action taken report be placed before the minutes of the previous meetings are read out and confirmed.
Former zilla panchayat member Moreno Rebello questioned the panchayat authorities about the action taken in the matter of the conversion of 67,000 sqm of land categorised as “no development slope” into a settlement zone. The villagers previously complained against it with the authorities concerned.
Rebello also demanded that the panchayat shouldn’t process any proposal for the sub-division of plots in the village, as it would lead to an influx of outsiders when the basic infrastructural facilities aren’t enough to sustain the existing population of the village.
Another former zilla panchayat member, Santan Rodrigues, expressed his disappointment over the failure of the panchayat in setting up a material recovery facility. He also demanded that the gram sabhas be conducted regularly.
