Mangaluru: The three-day 24th Dakshina Kannada district conference of the CPM, which began at Don Bosco Hall in the city on Sunday, adopted a resolution urging the implementation of housing schemes and allocation of residential plots for the poor.
For the past 15 years, those without housing in the district have been persistently fighting for homes and plots, with the CPM guiding this struggle. The party noted in the resolution that no housing scheme has been implemented within the jurisdiction of any panchayat in the district, including the Mangalore City Corporation, for over a decade.
Additionally, a resolution was passed at the conference urging measures to curb communal intolerance and violence and to strengthen harmony. Politically motivated communal activities and conflicts have plagued the district for nearly three decades, earning it the reputation of a ‘laboratory for communalism'.
The systematic communal activities carried out by the Sangh Parivar to gain political power have led the district to its current state, the resolution stated. While minority communities are the primary victims, the entire population suffers from the adverse effects. The CPM conference stressed the need for firm, planned measures to curb communalism and establish harmony, as noted by the leaders.
Another resolution called for establishing industries that create jobs and prioritise local employment. Delivering the inaugural address, CPM state secretary U Basavaraj stated that Marxism is the answer to the cultural politics of communal polarisation propagated by the RSS.
