Kanpur: Police have solved the murder case of a farmer whose charred body was recovered from a primary school premises in Rampura Loharai village in Etawah on November 14.
The investigation revealed that the victim's wife in connivance with her paramour committed the crime because she wanted to live with her lover which was opposed by her husband. While the accused woman was arrested, the police continued their search for her lover.
On November 14, some students found the partially burnt body of Charan Singh (52) at the primary school in Rampura Loharai area. Following post-mortem arrangements, Charan's eldest daughter Khushboo identified the body. Initially, Geeta Devi, the victim's wife, accused her brother-in-law of the crime and reported her mobile phone missing but police suspicions towards Geeta intensified during the investigation.
During interrogation, Geeta confessed that on Friday night, when Charan Singh was heavily drunk, she led him to the school where he stored potato seeds, and asked her lover, Jabar Singh, to meet them there. Jabar struck Charan with a heavy object, and together they covered him with straw before setting him ablaze.
SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma said that Charan Singh, Geeta and five family members were previously implicated in a case involving a youth's suicide at Saifai police station. Geeta, who was residing with Jabar Singh at the time, attended a court hearing with Charan Singh on November 14. Although Charan asked her to return home, she and Jabar plotted his murder on Friday night, the SSP further said.
The investigation unfolded Geeta's complex marital history. She had married one Sanjay in Ghatampur about 25 years ago, bearing two daughters. Following Sanjay's death, she wed Charan Singh and had two sons. She later developed a relationship with Jabar Singh, Charan's co-worker. Despite leaving home multiple times with Jabar, who hails from Sonipat, Haryana, Charan would always persuade her to return.
