Patna: The half-burned bodies of an elderly couple were found in their house in Nalanda's Dogi village on Monday morning. They were allegedly murdered and their bodies partially burned in an attempt to destroy evidence. The incident occurred in the Chhabilapur police station area.
The deceased were identified as Vijay Prasad (54) and his wife Kanti Devi (50). The couple was alone at home while their sons lived in another house in the village.
Vipin Kumar, the couple's son, said, "I walked from my house to check on my parents. The door was open and I noticed blood flowing from the drain. When I entered, I saw my parents engulfed in flames. I immediately called my brothers and screamed for help." Villagers soon gathered at the house after hearing the commotion.
SHO of Chhabilapur police station, Murli Manohar Azad, said, prima facie, it appeared the couple was murdered. "Blood stains across the rooms suggest they were attacked before an attempt was made to burn their bodies to cover up the crime. One of the house's two gates was locked from the inside while the other was open. We also found gloves near the scene, which raises suspicions," he added.
"The house has been sealed after forensic and dog squad teams collected samples. The bodies have been sent to a hospital for postmortem examination. As of now, no written complaint has been filed by the family," the SHO said.
