NEW DELHI: A traffic police constable was allegedly assaulted by a scooter rider after stopping him for riding on the wrong side of the road in New Friends Colony, South East Delhi.
Police said the incident took place on Nov 13 around 6.15pm near the Taimur Nagar Gurudwara when the constable, Sanjay Kumar, attempted to issue a challan to the scooterist for driving on the wrong side of the road.
The scooterist, identified as Mohammad Salman, became aggressive and started abusing the constable. He then allegedly pulled out a screwdriver and assaulted Kumar, causing injuries to his arm. The constable's uniform was also torn during the altercation.
A PCR van was called to the scene, and both parties were taken to the New Friends Colony police station. The scooter was seized, and the constable was sent for a medical examination.
The police registered a case against Salman for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his public functions, voluntarily causing hurt, and assaulting a public servant.
