Bhubaneswar: Residents continued to enjoy the relatively cool weather for the second consecutive day with the capital city recording 16.8 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees below normal, on Monday.
IMD said the prevailing fall in night temperature would see no significant change in the state for the next four to five days. The night temperature was recorded below 20C at many places in the state for the fourth day in a row.
Sanjeev Dwivedi, a scientist at the regional IMD centre here, said the forecast model did not indicate a further significant drop in the mercury levels in the state at present.
G Udayagiri in Kandhamal district continued to be the coldest place in the state during, recording 7.2C, the lowest of the season so far.
Angul town in interior Odisha, at 11.6C, recorded a sharp drop of 6 degrees from the normal, the first time during the season. Jharsuguda, at 12.4C, followed with a 4.1-degree drop from the normal.
An IMD bulletin said the minimum temperature was recorded below normal at many places over the coastal districts and isolated places over interior Odisha on Monday.
Bhawanipatna in interior Odisha also experienced dense fog during the day, reducing visibility to 50 metres and causing problems for motorists. A few more places in Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts experienced shallow to moderate fog in the morning, the IMD bulletin added.
There would be chances of shallow to moderate fog at isolated places in six districts — Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kandhamal and Kalahandi — during the next three days, the IMD forecast stated.
