Mysuru: Chamarajanagar district administration entered into a tripartite agreement with Myrada Kaveri Pradeshika Samsthe (MYKAPS) for the effective scientific disposal of solid waste generated in MM Hills of Hanur taluk in Chamarajanagar district.
MM Hills is one of the highest revenue-generating muzrai temples in the state after Kukke Subramanya in Dakshina Kannada and Sri Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills in Mysuru. Lakhs of devotees visit the MM Hills throughout the year. As the religious site generates hundreds of tons of dry and wet waste, it struggles to handle this waste.
A memorandum to this effect was signed by Srikshetra MM Hills Development secretary AE Raghu, MYKAPS executive director Ashraf Ul Hasan, and MM Hills gram panchayat development officer Kiran with this non-profit organisation in the presence of Chamarajanagar deputy commissioner Shilpa Nag, ZP CEO Mona Roth, and MYKAPS vice-president TM Vijayabhaskar.
As per the concept of Green Tomorrow- MM Hills, MYKAPS will handle comprehensive solid waste management for the next three years in the hill shrine. It will also establish its own plants for segregation and wet waste, recycle the waste products generated in the hill shrine, and maintain existing waste treatment plants. It will share revenue generated by selling compost and manure with MM Hills Development Authority.
As per the agreement, MYKAPS will collect, recycle, and dispose of the waste scientifically without causing any damage to flora and fauna in the ecologically sensitive hill shrine for the next three years. It will also focus on improving greenery along with the effective disposal of solid waste without harming wildlife.
As per the agreement, LIC HFL organisation provides all necessary grants for the implementation of this project. Deputy commissioner Shilpa Nag said the tripartite agreement for the scientific disposal of solid waste generated in MM Hills came at the right time when the district administration struggled to handle tons of waste generated in the hill shrine throughout the year.
The district administration declared MM Hills a plastic-free zone, working in that direction along with the forest department, is the local gram panchayat, and the MM Hills Development Authority. Vice-president of MYKAPS TM Vijaybhaskar said that his non-profit organisation, which has taken on a slew of projects in Cauvery River basin districts, will initiate all measures for the effective scientific disposal of solid waste generated in MM Hills.
Executive director of MYKAPS Ashraf Ul Hassan said that the organisation conducted one round of meeting with all its stakeholders involved in waste collection and segregation. It also conducted a survey and employed locals for the collection and disposal of waste generated in MM Hills, he said.
