Ranchi: Jharkhand was ranked second in the country in dispute disposal percentage during the third National Lok Adalat (NLA) held in October.
Sources in the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) said the disposal rate of the state was 95.88 per cent, after Telengana that had a figure of 98.88%, during the third NLA held under aegis of the National Legal Service Authority (NLSA). Out of the 15,89,145 cases, including pending and pre-litigation ones, 15,23,651 were disposed of. Karnataka finished third with a disposal percentage of 90.80.
The overall disposal rate across the country was 72.25 per cent.
Member secretary of the JHALSA, Ranjana Asthana, said, "Lok Adalat is an effective means of alternative dispute resolution system for settlement of cases. We have been enhancing our performance every year. It is due to monitoring by honorable executive chairman JHALSA Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad. The last Lok Adalat is scheduled on December 15. The parties may take benefit of it by giving applications to the district legal service authorities."
Jharkhand had finished at the seventh position with a disposal percentage of 92.45 in 2023, when four NLAs were held.
Out of the 30,53,479 cases taken up, 28,22,947 were resolved. JHALSA disposed of 35,01,128 disputes after the three NLAs held this year. Uttar Pradesh, with a figure of 91,83,487 cases, was at the top in terms of volume of cases handled.
