Guwahati: A woman cop in Jorhat district has been accused of assaulting a woman and her infant. This comes just a day after the suspension of Guwahati's Panbazar OC Bhargav Borbora by DGP GP Singh.
The complainant, identified as Dimpi Das, accused Jorhat's Bhogdoi outpost OC Barnali Gohain of allegedly assaulting her and her child during a home visit. Dimpi lodged an FIR against the cop at Jorhat PS, accusing her of unleashing terror at her home on Saturday.
"Around 1.30 pm, a police team entered my home and created terror by throwing away furniture and cloths from my wardrobe without any reason. The cops snatched my phone and kicked me in my stomach while I was holding my two-month old daughter. Later, in an attempt to slap me, she hit my daughter and injured her," Dimpi's FIR said.
However, the accused Barnali Gohain termed all allegations against her are baseless. "Royal Road village defence party (VDP) under Bhogdoi outpost nabbed a drug peddler on Saturday and handed him over to the police. During the interrogation, the peddler revealed Dimpi's involvement in drug peddling. Following that, we searched her home, however, could not find any illegal substance and called her to the outpost for inquiry. She did not appear at the station and later accused me of assaulting her and her infant," Gohain added.
Jorhat SP informed TOI that based on the FIR, statement of the accused have been recorded and an inquiry is ongoing. "During the search operation on Saturday at the complainant's place, villagers also accused her of being involved in drug peddling. Statements of independent eyewitnesses and the video recorded during the search operation do not corroborate the allegations. However, we have not yet dismissed her accusations. Additional SP (crime) has been carrying out an inquiry into the matter," the SP added.
