Shivamogga: Former chief minister BS Yediyurappa was confident NDA candidates would sweep the bypolls to three assembly constituencies — Channapatna, Shiggaon and Sandur. Yediyurappa, a member of BJP's influential parliamentary board, said the "atmosphere" was favourable for NDA, and people extended their support.
On another note, Yediyurappa said BJP has formed a committee to devise a strategy to take on chief minister Siddaramaiah's govt on the waqf property issue. "The committee will tour the state and submit a report, after which the party would plan its agitation," he said.
Dismissing the state govt's announcement to set up a SIT to probe irregularities in handling the Covid-19 pandemic, he said, "We did a great job of saving lives during Covid. Ulterior motives are behind the decision to form an SIT. But we will face the inquiry and emerge stronger. Some people are creating unnecessary controversies to divert attention," he said.
Yediyurappa distanced himself from party functionaries who say the Siddaramaiah govt will fall soon. "Nobody is interested in toppling the Congress govt," he said, adding that there is no effort to lure Congress MLAs.
